National Officers from Massachusetts

Below is a list of wonderfully ambitious people who’ve made it to the national office so as to serve at least one term. It is worth noting that most, if not all, of these NJCL officers served at least one term as a MassJCL officer, though that is not an explicit requirement to run for NJCL office. Because we currently do not have access to state board records before 1999, we cannot determine whether or not any NJCL officer who served their term before that year is a former MassJCL officer, but all of the people on the below list have been verified as members of MassJCL.

N.B. The years listed below refer to the NJCL year (of which the NJCL convention is the final event) that they were elected; for example, someone elected at the 2016 NJCL convention would have served their national term during the 2016-2017 school year leading up to the 2017 NJCL convention.

Additionally, it is noted after each officer which state office(s), if any, they previously held, and during what school years.

A few things to be aware of (a very, very brief summary of requirements for campaigning):

  • You will need permission from all of our State Chairs, one of your parents, and your JCL sponsor. (Talk to all of them first!)
  • You will also need to convince said State Chair(s) beforehand as to why you should be the ONE candidate for NJCL office they nominate this summer.
  • As of June 1, 2027 (starting with the 2027-2028 school year), the MassJCL may permit you to hold a state and national office at the same time. The authority to decide whether state officers elect can run for national office as well has been relegated to the discretion of the individual state JCLs.
    • The only exception to this rule is the NJCL Editor office: you can have a state office while campaigning for national office, however if you are appointed to the office of Editor you will need to resign your state office immediately.
  • As previously stated, you do not need to be a MassJCL officer to run for NJCL office, but it adds to your credentials and will be helpful in your discussion with State Chairs AND more importantly, your campaign at nationals!
