News & Announcements

Updates Log - 1 January 2012

Website Updates

  • The Calendar page (still located under the "Events" tab) should now have a link to Certamen as well as a new countdown marking the days until the next major MassJCL event (still WIP)
  • The individual events page (so far, only Snowball) is still awaiting the approval of the 2nd VP, but the State Convention page is still a surprise. ;)
  • I am still working closely with Sponsors throughout the state to build the Sponsors page, but I cannot give a definitive launch date as of yet.
  • A brand new Certamen page! Located at www.massjcl.org/events/certamen.html, it will host Certamen resources and a list of upcoming tournaments. I encourage schools that intend to host tournaments to email me at techcoordinator@massjcl.org with their event title, times, and dates (along with any accompanying documentation - flyers, etc.)

Thank you for your patience, and, as always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at techcoordinator@massjcl.org!

National Convention Summary - 16 August 2011

The 2011 NJCL Convention held at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond was quite successful for Massachusetts. The most impressive feat was undoubtedly the Novice Certamen Championship. The team of Amol Punjabi (captain), Christopher Liao, Tim Morrissey, and Katharine Hodge, coached by AMSA teacher Mrs. Sinacola and BLS teacher Ms. Hausey, brought home the Susan Schearer trophy for placing 1st in their division of Certamen. This is the third Certamen Championship for Massachusetts; since they were competing against Florida and Virginia in the Finals, who have won more than 50 championships combined, this was truly an incredible accomplishment! The Intermediate team, consisting of Meghana Vagwala (captain), Henry Tsang, Rahi Punjabi, and Ava Violich with alternates Jeffrey Dubuisson and Francesca Violich, coached by AMSA teacher Ms. Lewis, placed 5th. The Advanced team, consisting of Grace Thomas (captain), Derek Booth, Griffin Metto, Patrick Londa and alternates Edward Kleiner and Joana Jankulla, coached by former Lunenburg teacher Mr. Cox, placed 7th. Massachusetts, led by 2nd Vice President Samantha Collette, placed 1st in Spirit for medium states. In addition, our publication, the Forum Factorum, previously edited by Alyssa Tomkowicz, placed 6th. Finally, our very own Mass JCLer Emily Chang was elected to the position of 2011-2012 NJCL Historian. Congratulations to all!

Welcome to our new website! - 10 August 2011

Hello, traveler!

Here you will find the newest version of the website of the Massachusetts Junior Classical League. To help you get accustomed to the new layout, the following is a brief summary of the changes:

  • The banner logo at the top will always return you to the Homepage.
  • The navigation links directly below the banner will often lead to subdirectories where you can see more categories.
  • The bar directly beneath the navigation links on the homepage is the "News" bar, which will display the most recent article-worthy news.
  • On most pages, there will be an infobar (bottom right) which will display relevant links or information to the page.
  • On the homepage, the "Announcements" section will consist of updates that are important, but do not have enough information to warrant an article.

I hope that you enjoy the new design, and, as always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at techcoordinator@massjcl.org!
